Stay At Emerson

‘Connect with your daily rhythm’

Staying at Emerson

Emerson College offers a range of accommodation throughout the campus.

We have a campsite for up to 30 people and 43 single rooms and 7 twin rooms in 5 different buildings – all with shared toilets and showers. One of our student houses is fitted with a wheelchair toilet and shower.*

*Please notify us of your requirements at the point of booking.

Camping At Emerson

Our campsite is located next to our orchard and vegetable garden close to Ruskin Hall.

Campers need to bring their own equipment including tent and bedding. They can use showers and toilets in one of our student houses.

Our student houses

We have three main student houses Linden, Oaktree and Birch.

The houses provide opportunities to meet and socialise with other residents and guests, as well as quiet rooms for rest and time alone within Emerson’s diverse learning community. Each house has its own style and character.

As an ecologically aware organisation, we use specific cleaning products and procedures to minimise our impact on the environment and to reduce water use and waste.

Communal spaces

Other communal spaces in Pixton House provide the social hub of the campus, with dining rooms and a library for quiet study.

Bookshop

Our bookshop, which can be found in the main reception area, is rich in anthroposophical books, storytelling and more.  We warmly invite people to come and have a look.

Eating at Emerson

‘Fantastic food prepared from fresh ingredients – cooked with such love that I can taste it.’

Meals

Since ethical, sustainable living is central to everything we do at Emerson, our food is made from seasonal, locally sourced, organic produce wherever possible. Much is grown in our own biodynamic garden and green houses. All our meals need to be pre-booked which minimises our food waste. We actively compost to support the soil health of our garden.

Fresh, delicious home grown and cooked food is prepared daily with love and care by our experienced kitchen team here at Emerson. All our meals are vegetarian with a vegan and gluten free option. We have set meal times as we believe that food brings people together. The ringing of the gong announces that lunch or supper is ready to be served, calling people from classrooms, offices and houses.

Special Diets

Our meals are vegetarian and we can also cater for the diets listed below:

  • Vegetarian – No meat, fish or any products derived from slaughtered animals (rennet, gelatine, lard, fish oils, etc.)
  • Vegan – As for vegetarians plus no product from any living animal such as milk (cows’, goats’ or ewes’), cheese, eggs, cream, lactose, honey, etc.
  • Gluten-free – No product containing gluten, such as wheat, oats, spelt, rye. Suitable starches we use are buckwheat, millet, rice and potatoes
  • Dairy-free – Dairy product/dairy/milk products are products derived exclusively from milk. ‘Milk’ is obtained from animals that include cows, goats, sheep and buffalo. We always have alternatives to milk as standard e.g. rice or soya drink.

Allergies and intolerance

Unfortunately, we are not able to cater for Allergies and Intolerances. We will provide you with self catering facilities at no extra charge. Please talk to the events manager when you enquire.

An allergy produces specific symptoms, such as swelling of the lips which usually develops within minutes of eating the food. Only a tiny particle of food is needed to trigger a food allergy. The symptoms of a food allergy can be life threatening.

Intolerance produces more general symptoms, such as indigestion or bloating that can develop up to several hours after eating. The symptoms of a food intolerance, unpleasant as they can be, are never immediately life threatening.

These are the standard definitions used by health services in the UK.
