Course Leader Kira Orsak


Kira has a background in sustainable agriculture and the arts. She has completed a Biodynamic Agriculture training at Emerson College, holds a Permaculture Sustainable Land Use and Design certificate, and earned an MA in sacred and traditional arts from the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts. She co-founded Sacred Art of Geometry with Daniel Docherty based at Emerson, is a Trustee at the College, and is co-developing the neighbouring Educational Smallholding. She is currently the gardening teacher at Michael Hall Steiner School.


Briony Young, Biodynamic Preparations Specialist

Briony comes from a background of holistic healing and energetic medicine. Since 2004, she has been fully immersed in ‘Biodynamics’ after discovering its unique potential to heal the Earth and improve the nutritive quality of food. Briony divides her time between Tablehurst Farm in the UK and various locations in India and engages enthusiastically with all aspects of biodynamics – from the purely practical work to facilitating training courses, lecturing  and promoting biodynamic methods. She specializes in the ‘Biodynamic Preparations’ and supplies significant quantities to The Biodynamic Association (UK) as well as to thousands of Indian farmers. Briony holds a Diploma in Biodynamic Farm Management from Emerson College and is also interested in biodynamic bee-keeping.


Nir Halfon, Farm Director, Garden Manager, Grower and Educator

Nir Halfon currently works as a Farm director and Garden Manager at Old Plawhatch Farm, Sharpthorne, West Sussex. In addition, he is a trustee of the Biodynamic Agricultural College and teaches on the College's courses. Nir has been working with Biodynamic methods for the past 20 years. He was first introduced to these during a foundation year in Anthroposophy in Kibbutz Harduf in Israel. Following that Nir completed a Biodynamic Farm Management training at Emerson College. In addition he holds a diploma in applied Permaculture. Nir's main interest is in regenerative and sustainable food growing systems and developing the conversations around them.


Vija Docherty, Artist, Illustrator, Educational Consultant

Vija is an artist, illustrator and educational consultant. She has more than 22 years’ experience in various roles in Waldorf education including kindergarten, class teaching and co-principal roles. She now works part-time at Tablehurst Biodynamic Farm, and co-teaches on Sacred Art of Geometry courses at the SAOG Studios in Emerson College and abroad. She lives and loves with her three children and husband Daniel in an idyllic setting on the Ashdown Forest, East Sussex, UK. 


Daniel Docherty

Daniel Docherty is a keen gardener of both soul and soil.  He is programme director at Sacred Art of Geometry Studios (SAOG Studios), Emerson College - which he co-founded with Kira Orsak in 2014.  He is a visiting tutor at The Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts, London.  His abiding love of the Sacred Art of Geometry has to do with the profound insights that the practice can potentially teach us concerning our conscious participation within the Order of Nature and Cosmos.
