THE LIVING EARTH - what is the Earth asking of us now?
It's been more than a year since we first conceived of the 'Festival of the Living Earth' as a response to the conversation on climate change, well before we knew what was coming with the Covid pandemic. In the meantime, so much in the world and in ourselves has shifted and moved in directions we could never have predicted. It therefore does not feel appropriate to simply dig out the programme we had prepared for last year and do as planned for then, though we believe that the need to understand and cultivate our relationship with the living earth is ever greater.
A number of us were able to meet in Penmaenmawr at the time when we would have had the Festival at Emerson. Our work was grounded in daily contemplations of the the St John Imagination, the Druid Stone Sketch and the Foundation Stone meditation, which resonated deeply with the place where we were working.
In response to the increasing riddles and ongoing challenges of the present time, we have felt the need to alter the title and form of last year’s postponed ‘Festival of the Living Earth’. We envisage, rather, a more intimate gathering, at which members and friends come together in the spirit of enquiry to address questions arising from our experience of living through these unprecedented times.
The programme, as yet fluid, will involve a weaving together of shared research, experiential work based on artistic and scientific disciplines, question-led conversation and artistic performance. Through all, we will attempt to listen to what the Earth is asking of us now.
Please check back here after Easter when we will have more information for you.
