Exploring the Philosophy of Freedom through Play

Exploring the Philosophy of Freedom through Play

A weekend workshop with Wim Wolbrink and Vivian Gladwell.

In his 1916 classic “The Philosophy of Freedom”, Steiner provides the philosophical foundation of his “spiritual science” by explaining the nature of freedom as a function of spiritual activity.

We achieve freedom when we cultivate “our moral imagination, our ability to imaginatively create ethically sound and practical solutions to new situations, in fact, to forge our own ethical principles and to transform these flexibly as needed – not in the service of our own egotistical purposes, but in the face of new demands and situations.”

This weekend is a first playful exploration of Steiner’s principles that the clown might stumble into. We will ground all of our reflections in play.

Clowning is a state of playfulness that brings us to experience a child-like, naïve and vulnerable state of being. Paradoxically we grow, learn and are strengthened through reconnecting playfully with what makes us most vulnerable. This approach to clowning is not a technique (tricks, gags and routines) but a personal journey towards finding one’s own unique way of being a clown, by listening and being receptive, essential skills for any creative and imaginative expression. It is only when we let go our control over things that we begin to be surprised by the depth of what reveals itself to us. Come for a weekend of letting go and freeing up!

The group is limited to 12
