ONE DAY WORKSHOP: Seed Sowing & Flower Growing

ONE DAY WORKSHOP: Seed Sowing & Flower Growing

An introduction to seed sowing and flower growing with Emerson Gardener, Trude Lauksund.

'It is such a wonderful thing to grow your own flowers.  Their fragrance and colours attracts bees and butterflies.  You can go out in your garden, pick your flowers and they will reward you by growing more.’

Together we will spend a day learning about seeds and flowers and how to grow them:

During this one day course we will learn how to plan cut-flower patch of 2-3 square metres.  A small area like this is manageable for most people will give a lot of flowers over the summer without requiring a lot of weeding and maintenance.

  • We will look at practical techniques to teach how to cultivate the area you need for your flowers from scratch.
  • We will talk about how to deal with pests like slugs...
  • We will talk about fertilisation, maintenance, watering etc.
  • We will sow some seeds for you to take home and prick out a selection of seeds that I have already sown to provide you with all you need to start growing your cut-flower patch.

A little bit about me...

I work as a gardener at Emerson college, growing vegetables for the kitchen, and flowers for the house.

My passion is growing, growing flowers in particular. It all started 15 years ago with flowers, which were my introduction to gardening.  At this time I still lived in northern Norway, 300 miles above the arctic circle.  Season is short and hectic, but I grew hundred of flowers over the summer, and they brought me great joy.

What you will need:

  • A passion for flowers.
  • A desire to learn.
  • Outdoor weather appropriate clothes (as we will spend some time outside in the garden).
