Do you want to be the change you want to see in the world? Do you want to learn the skills and the knowledge to explore how these changes can come about?
It is not a secret that the planet is in dire straits. We, as human beings and stewards of this planet, bear this responsibility. These things are not new – they have become a daily topic even in the mainstream media for quite some years now. Farms also share this load: through our practices of producing food, we have sown deserts behind us.
What is the context of all this chaos?
We need to ask the question of ourselves - why we are in this position and how has our evolution brought us to this situation? Is this phase necessary for us to continue our evolution on the planet? Why is it that we have to put ourselves in a tight corner in order to be forced to find solutions? And what choices are available for the human race in this age?
Can I learn how to contribute?
The Holistic Land Management Course seeks to expand the question of sustainable food production into the whole ecological system. It seeks to bring answers from the experience of Biodynamic practice and philosophy and modern sustainability themes like permaculture. Look at the lay of the land and ask yourself how can sustainable land management be incorporated into farming and rural life?
What skills will I learn?
You will learn about ecology and woodland management, environmental issues and policies, skills in sustainable building practices, greenwood working, and plant and soil science, along with more modern techniques of tree felling with chainsaws, business management and planning.
Will I get any qualifications?
The course is an accredited Edexcel National Certificate in Countryside Management: this means that you can apply for a Career Development Loan or an Adult Learning Grant to help pay for the fees – and at the end of the course you get an officially certified qualification. In addition the course includes a Permaculture Design Certificate.
So what's special about it?
This course is unique because it explores the subject of ecology, environment, sustainability and spirit through the insights given by Austrian philosopher, Rudolf Steiner - one of the founders of the modern organic movement. The course brings together a wonderful integration of modern and ancient land practices that supports ingenuity, self reliance and self sustaining systems.
Once you have completed the course, you will have a grounded and secure route into occupations such as woodland and estate management, sustainable building companies, community supported agriculture, conservation and environment. Yet it is also a great foundation for budding smallholders, eco-warriors and people involved in the Transition Town movement.
Truly a course for people to "be the change they want to see in the world."
