Life and Portrait Drawing and Painting
This course is intended to support pleasure painters and drawers, as well as those attending current or future Art and Design courses. It is a structured course with a look at the human form and face in relation to our capacities of thinking, feeling and willing and how we translate these onto paper. Working from a nude life model, the exercises are designed to enliven skills and equip participants with drawing strategies that heighten perception.
The first part of the week will be devoted to drawing exercises that vary from speed drawing to the studying of the skeleton to sketching and modeling a head. The last two and a half days will be spent painting a full life model, with advice given on colour theory and mixing flesh tones, using theory in a historical/contemporary context when referencing artists.
