A weekend workshop with Celtic Geometer and Celtic Patterns: visual rhythms of the ancient mind author Adam Tetlow.
Like the traditional arts of many cultures Celtic and Islamic art are rooted in the practice of geometry. Each have contributed unique methods that provide a wealth of study for artists and designers. The Celts developed a system of manipulating Knot-work and Key patterns on an underlying grid, and the Islamic artists developed symmetry groups and tessellations unseen in other parts of the world. This course seeks to combine the unique aspects of both of these traditional practices to help participants adorn their Islamic work with Celtic forms and their Celtic work with Islamic symmetries.
